Well, the garden is finished with most
of it's bounty. I still have herbs, leeks, peppers and a few tomatoes. But the
heat has really taken its toll on the garden. So the next couple of weeks is
all about transitioning the garden to the fall.
First we add some compost and fork the
compost into the soil to rebuild up the soil's nutrient level.
Next I will plant several different
types of lettuce, arugula and spinach. The seeds can be directly sown into the
soil, if I can get the soil below 85 degrees. I may need to mulch or shade the
seeds.
We will replant some peas, carrots and
some broccoli.
The fall is the busiest time of the
year for a perennial gardener. Although the flowers have been consistently
watered, dead-headed and fed all summer, next month is prepping some perennials
for dividing, new perennial planting and all the bulbs that will need to be
placed. Tulips can be spotty for coming back in Tennessee, so I will plant new
bulbs in the existing tulip beds.
Next year, I am planting a cutting
garden so the greenhouse needs some new glass, a pristine cleaning and new
shelving.
What are you planting this fall?
it is still too hot in Texas to plant....love your green house
