Gardening: Watermelon

I have two gorgeous watermelons growing in the garden.

How pretty are they?

We are going to crack them open this weekend....

And eat delicious watermelon with every meal.

Growing watermelon is easy but the plant is like the plant that ate my garden...

  1. Congrats on those beautiful watermelon-enjoy!

  2. They look delish! I haven't had good luck with melons or pumpkins..though I always manage to have my garden "eaten" by the plants! I get lots of plant and no fruit.

  3. least you do not have any spiders!

  4. Thought I'd say hello & share how envious I am of your watermelons.

Unfortunately, paying $15.99 per melon is out of my grocery budget so I've had to suffer without it this summer.

And no...not kidding. $15.99 is on sale, actually. And up from the original $11.99.

    See for yourself:

Much love from an overseas Army wife,

  5. Have you tried the sweet baby watermelons? Smaller (great for couples to share or for you solo). I grew them and used a trellis so that the plant wouldn't take over the garden. Used some old pantyhose to make a "hammock" for them on the wooden trellis - worked great! I highly recommend if you want a watermelon without sacrificing the garden space. Trellis needs to be about 7 feet tall, wide, and strong.
