In three years, we will have saved enough to drastically remodel the kitchen but I needed to do something now.. as I could not take another day of the dark red kitchen. So the goal was to Freshen and lighten without spending a large amount of cash!!!
So here it is...
Two coats of paint on the cabinets, baseboards, windows and crown molding. $65.
Two coats of wall paint. A gorgeous pewter blue. $65.
All the handles were scrubbed clean, primed and painted with a Krylon metallic paint. $6.
New Curtains and Tablecloths , $220.
Budget for Accessories: $144 for pictures, placemats, etc. I am changing the lighting with can lights for over the sink. Also, I want to change out the fan with either more can lighting or a new light fixture.
I also have two cans of a soft green to paint the kitchen island and stools.
Overall, the look is exactly what I wanted, a soft, light, pretty kitchen that will keep me inspired to cook, bake and entertain until I can afford my remodeled kitchen.
No way!! I had to do a double take to make sure it was the same kitchen. That turned out so pretty! I love the colors you've chosen and the green plates mixed in there are fabulous. Great job!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job. I wanted to paint my kitchen mossy green, and ended up with dark jungle green. It was an accident, I had a screaming toddler with me and a hubby hurrying me up.. I hate hate hate how dark it is and jungle looking.. now I am thinking of going with a pale yellow, and some pretty cobalt blue accents.. or at least I think so..ha.
ReplyDeleteGosh that's pretty. This looks like something I'd like in my kitchen. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI love it and it matches your countertops much better than the red did. Looks like a picture from a magazine!

OH MY! What an amazing transformation. I love it! WOW WOW WOW!
ReplyDeleteI have spent quite a lot of time in that kitchen - eating, cooking, cleaning, etc. - and that transformation is absolutely amazing. BEAUTIFUL, STUNNING, WOW!
ReplyDeleteYou are truly an awesome inspiration.
Very well done...beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBlessings~
Looks wonderful!!!! Thanks for posting your pictures.
ReplyDeletegrace and peace,
julie
Please tell me you didn't do this recently with your knee surgery???
ReplyDeleteAnd I'd spend that money somewhere else. This kitchen looks FABULOUS!!!!!
I have a question for you regarding my hardwood floors. The problem I'm having is they get "smeary" looking. If someone comes in the house and has the tiniest bit of water on their shoes it just messes up the floors awful! Even if you walk around on them barefoot! I have no clue what to do. I have used my steam mop on them about 3 times since November and they look great after that, but then it just starts all over again . If you have any suggestions, that would be great. Thanks!
it looks so light and airy....
ReplyDeleteLooks great! We recently remodeled our kitchen and I was so glad to trade the tacky oak cabinets for crisp, clean white ones.
ReplyDeleteyou really brightened up the space, I love the new look
ReplyDeleteVery nice! It's beautiful. Nice and light and airy!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Kim

Congratulations on an amazing job!!
I am with you! Getting ready to do the same thing. My kitchen is also red. Hopefully I will be adding some new countertops(mine are faux butcherblock 1970's)and possibly having new cabinet doors made. Can't wait to freshen things up a bit. Jackie
ReplyDeleteYou. Are. Kidding. Me. I can't even believe it's the same kitchen! You did an amazing job, and I'm so impressed with your choices! I'm not a blue person, but I love the wall color. Great job on it all!
ReplyDeleteWow! I can't believe that's the same kitchen! I had to scroll up a few times to look at the photos of the original. What color are your countertops? I think your kitchen looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteShut the door! I can't believe that's the same kitchen! I'm so impressed.
ReplyDeleteWow, you did a really nice job decorating your french country kitchen with only $500. Thanks for sharing the photos. Great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteCynthia, All I can say is WOW!!! Awesome job, girl!!!! It does look so fresh and clean, and country! Most of all it looks like a place you enjoy...all your cooking appliances and supplies..are just beautiful...it's YOU. Nancy
ReplyDeleteLovely room!! You did a great job, and that same fabric is waiting in the wings to be a guest bedroom makeover in Texas :^)
ReplyDeleteI would like to know if the painted hardware held up? I would like to go from shiny brass to antique brass, but I am afraid it might not wear well.
Many thanks for any information.
Blessings to you,
J
