Confession: What I really do!

I am an Economist and an Accountant. I have taught at several colleges including the University of Tennessee. I have performed forensic accounting and audits for several entities. I have worked in Market Research for 2 years.

As juicy as all of that sounds... I know that you are all jealous that you can't crunch numbers, believe me. I know, they are sexy skills.... yeah right.

So here is my confession: I love sewing, decorating, cake decorating, baking, gardening, knitting, crafting, photography, yard sales, and all aspects of creating a home. I hate Economics and Accounting.

If I had to do it over, I would have been a home economist, like my aunt. I thought you had to be "serious". Can I have a re-do? Actually, I am working on a way to combine all my skills into a business!!!

1. Does anyone have the same problem?
2. What are you doing about it?

  1. Yes, same problem. Maybe the choice I made when I was 18 was right then but not now. Did you read about us taking our son to AIMS in Dallas a few weeks ago? It's aptitude testing for anyone. They really recommend it for people who want to make a life change. Hubby says I need to do it too because I have lots of work years left in me.

  2. Here's what I say, as long as you're still living, do what makes you happy. If you can make it work, go for it. Life is for living, not for regrets.

And have I told you that my Leo does Market Research?...He worked on his own for almost 11 years before he decided to go back to corporate research - the job he took with Hilton.

And yes, I often think I wish I could have a "do-over" for my education path. But currently, even though I'm not bringing home a juicy paycheck, I know I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be - and the benefits of the job far outweigh a paycheck.

Now may be when the kids are gone, I'll think more about it, but for now, I'm content. And I thank God for that peace.

  3. I have the job I always have wanted...but that doesn't stop me from wondering if I would have liked to do something else!

  4. Yes same problem....RN by trade currently trying to get some decorating off the ground...tired of the hospital rat race and all the stupid policies....Can't hurt to try right? French;)
    Nothing ventured nothing gained!

  5. Good for you. You go girl. There is no doubt that you can take the sum of all your experience and your desires & combine them into the perfect job. Never too late. My husband went to medical school in his 40's & is now in his dream job as a Physician's Assistant. Go for the dream, you will succeed because you will work harder because you love it. You will be amazed how God can intertwine it & work it out.

  6. If combining all your skills to have your own buiness is what you want from life go for it.You have what it takes to suceed. You will be off and goin in no time at all.I love sewing and wish I had went to desgin school in my younger years.I sew at home for the public and I enjoy it but I would love to have been a designer.

  7. This is where I'm at with my life! The crossroads of "which direction do 'I' want to take?". I enjoy being in my garden, making fresh homemade bread, crocheting, reading, and the watching the unbelievable sunsets in East Tennessee. But what career incorporates all of that? I'm going to begin my BA of Elementary Education soon, but is that what I really want & will I make enough money to be able to do the other things I enjoy?

I don't know, any words of advice??

  8. Yup, I have the same problem too. But I am currently researching things and working on my skills to do what I really want to. Doesn't mean I am not scared to death, though!

  9. I did this about six or seven years ago...loved entertaining...southern hospitality, tea parties, and etiquette. So, I combined all those interests and went to school to bring it all together into one profession. Love it!
